Some of you have already heard our praise report on the healing of our son from Autism when he was
9 years old.
Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual,
repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests. Experts estimate that 1 in 100 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with
autism. Males are four times more likely to have autism than females.
Many children with autism engage in repetitive movements such as rocking, twirling, and flapping or in what is thought to be self-
abusive behavior such as biting or head-banging. These behaviors are often referred to as “stims”. These stims are actually a
way the child compensates for lack of proper sensory motor input. [read more]
Our son was diagnosed at the age of eight as 'high-functioning' on the autism spectrum with a “brain age” of five to seven
years old and younger in some areas. This means that while exhibiting many of the traits of an autistic child he was able to
communicate or perform a number of daily functions with certain limitations.
When we reviewed our son’s initial test results from Brain Balance, it was explained that by completing two program sessions (3
months each) our son would be functioning at his typical “brain age” development level. Upon hearing this report and the
confidence that the facility director, Amanda Gunter conveyed, there was no question in my husband’s or my mind that we
needed to enroll in the program! We, like many of the families that attend Brain Balance (Peachtree City), relocated from out of
state to be near this facility. (You can read Amanda’s personal story of online in the August 2010 edition of Fayette Woman)
We left our home in Massachusetts and leased a home just outside of Peachtree City, Georgia with the hope that our other
home would sell. Unfortunately, it did not and we ended up maintaining, basically, two residences in order for our son to
participate in the program.
After completing the six-month prescribed program and the additional home programming, our son is now functioning at an
amazing level in all areas of life! He is no longer considered to be on the autism spectrum; has gone from his original diagnosis
of performing in the lower 1 percentile of his grade level to an average of 82%! He has completely confounded his academic
team with the rate of improvement we have witnessed over this past school year and passed all but one area of the state
accreditation exams for Georgia!
We also have seen improvements in our son’s dietary issues as well. He started out with high sensitivities with dairy, eggs and
wheat and gluten, etc. As of his last test results, his allergic markers went from >2,000 to <10!! in all areas of sensitivity. He
previously had a very limited desire to eat anything besides pizza, bread, soda, etc. (all things he is not suppose to have) to
now eating all kinds of vegetables, salads, and whole foods!
We are excited to see our little boy have life and look forward to each year of his continued development thanks to the Brain
Balance program.
Editors Note: Throughout our travels as we share our own personal story of triumph over this neurological disorder that
has reached epidemic proportion among this emerging generation, there hasn't been a time when we were not met with
more than one report of someone whose life has been directly touched in some way by a child who suffers from one of
these neurological dysfunctions.
Please check out the Brain Balance website link at the right as well as founder Dr. Melillo's books Disconnected Kids and
Reconnected Kids for more insight into this innovative holistic approach.
Also, Jenny McCarthy's Healing and Preventing Autism is a great book relating the importance of
nutrition and neurological influences.
